Rock Climbing --- 10/20/2006 - 10/21/2006 --- Gunks
Saturday morning we slept rather late, waking around 9am. It was a beautiful late fall day. Sunny with temperatures in the mid-50s. The Gunks was crowded as everyone tried to get out for what might be the last nice climbing day of the year. The three of us started the day climbing Disneyland. The first belay ledge was cozy, but we all fit. After finishing Disneyland, we walked down the Trapps to see what was open. Jackie and RMC both had long lines. So we continued down the cliff, meeting up with Kristin, Aramy and Kerran who were also looking for an open climb.
We found High Exposure didn't have much of a line, and Aramy wanted a shot at Modern Times. So we decided to climb High E and get a vantage to photograph Aramy. We blasted up to the GT ledge. I got some great shots of Aramy on the first pitch of Modern Times. Then we climbed the final pitch of High E, reaching the top of the cliff as the sun started to drop low in the sky. With two 60m ropes we were able to rappel all the way to the ground from the top rappel anchor (just barely!) so we got back to our packs fairly quickly. Aramy and crew were bailing off Modern Times after a valiant attempt at the huge roof. They had some trouble pulling their ropes, but Aramy gave one last tug before ascending and the ropes moved. Once the ropes were down we didn't need to stick around, so the three of us walked back to the car and returned to Ithaca.
