I'm always asking people to name their favorite movies. Keeping a list of recommended titles makes it more likely that when I take the time to watch a film, it is time well spent.
In return, I thought it would be reasonable to provide a list of my favorite films. This list probably omits a few favorites that have slipped my mind. I went through the top 250 films at IMDB.com and used that as my starting point. If you are into movies you have probably seen all my favorites already with one exception... The Ninth Configuration is possibly my all time favorite film, though it never had much commercial success or critical acclaim.
My favorite movies:
Best in Show
Fahrenheit 911
Harry Potter Movies
Hotel Rwanda
Lord of the Rings Movies
Memento
The Ninth Configuration
The Princess Bride
The Razor's Edge (the 1984 version with Bill Murray)
Shrek
Singing in the Rain
WALL-E
Every time I create a list of favorites, I always feel bad for the one movie that didn't quite make the cut. So I end up creating a list of "nearly favorites" to give those nearly great movies their nearly deserved accolades.
Amelie
Bowling for Columbine
Clerks
Despicable Me
Dogma
Fight Club
Full Metal Jacket
Highlander
An Inconvenient Truth
The Incredibles
Juno
Little Miss Sunshine
Masters of Stone V
The Matrix (only the first one, the second and third were horrid)
Monsters, Inc.
Moulin Rouge
Napoleon Dynamite
Office Space
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Religulous
Schindler's List
The Shawshank Redemption
Slumdog Millionaire
Spirited Away
Stand By Me
Star Trek movies (Wrath of Kahn, First Contact and Nemesis are the good ones)
Star Wars (yup, all six of them)
Superbad
The Terminator
Touching the Void
The Usual Suspects
Wallace and Gromit (all their short films and The Curse of the Were-Rabbit)
