On Friday Floris and I scouted the Siamese Ponds Wilderness, including Chimney Mountain, for our Photography Class.
We hiked a total of eight miles, then went to get ice cream.
Saturday we met up with Keith, Katie and Shawn and climbed at Hurricane. Floris and
I did the area classic, Quadrophenia (5.7), which was a pretty nice climb. Gear for the first two belays really sucks.
Then there is a perfect crack for the third belay... with bolts right next to it. Wish they put the bolts at the first
two belays. The fourth pitch is chossy and boring, so most people probably descend off the bolts at the top of p3.
We walked off to the right. On the way down we saw everyone else on some
random climb. They started on Xenolith (5.8) but migrated to the far right side of the cliff where they found a really
fun 5.9 crack. We could walk to the base of the crack from the right side descent, so we did that pitch too. Sunday
we went to Spider's Web. I led Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood (5.8) and had to hang twice at the crux. The crux is right off
the ground, so I had no warm up and pumped out placing gear. It is a really easy sequence of two moves, but I blew my
onsight. Oh well. The rest of the climb is easier and lots of fun. We did the dirty second pitch which deserves to be
climbed more often. The others were toproping Esthesia (5.9+), Slim Pickens (5.9+) and TR (5.10-). I got to hop on TR
which is a really cool climb that starts in a huge cave and then follows a fun crack for 90' to the top. The whole left
side of Spider's Web has a bunch of great climbs which are easy to toprope. I'd like to get back there and spend a day
on them.
I didn't take many pictures. The first picture below is mine. The other two are from Floris.
