Rock Climbing --- 10/13/2007 - 10/14/2007 --- Gunks

Beth and I drove down early Saturday morning and got right on City Lights. I've been sick for a few days and wasn't feeling up to leading anything hard. So the polished, difficult to protect start of City Lights was a challenge. After City Lights we ran into Bridget, who was looking for someone to climb with. We decided to toprope on the Gerdie block for the rest of the day. I led Red Cabbage, which is 5.9- and harder than I wanted to lead for the day. I moved left around the arete early, which I think makes the climb easier, but it was still challenging. Beth and Bridget climbed it, then I went up again taking a much more direct line on toprope. At the top, I moved the anchor to Red Cabbage Right which we all climbed. Then we set Herdie Gerdie and climbed that on toprope as it got dark.

Early Sunday morning we went to take pictures of the cliff. I got some good panoramas which I think make a handy resource for Gunks climbers. The high resolution panorama is huge, but allows you to see individual features on every climb at the Trapps and Near Trapps. The red maple in the foreground is in the perfect location and right at peak color. But the light on the cliff and in the sky wasn't cooperating. I'd like to get back and take that sequence again.

After a bit of missed connections, we met Iori, Jennifer and Ben who came down early Sunday. Beth, Iori and I climbed Strictly to Shockely's. Then we did Son of Easy O. Two fantastic climbs. We finished the day toproping Retribution which Jennifer and Ben had set when we got to the Uberfall. Climbed that until well past dark, then drove home.

Question: If someone has a small head then they must either have a small brain or a thin skull. Right? Are there other possibilities?
