Rock Climbing --- 5/1/2009 - 5/3/2009 --- Gunks

Two penguins are paddling a canoe in the desert...

TR Staff Training. Went to the Gunks on Friday and stayed up until 2am playing cards (Phase 10... fun game). Then woke early to be at Peter's Kill when it opened. We spent most of the day building anchors. I got to do a repeat of my first ever day climbing outdoors -- Reach Around and First Day. Woke early Sunday too. We occupied the Golden Dream area and I climbed Golden Dream which is about as hard as I can climb right now. Then we reviewed the rappel setup and finished the day building anchors.

After the TR staff left, I hung out with the Gunks class on the carriage road. My plan was to climb Monday with Jen and Lars, but the weather forecast was miserable. So I caught a ride home with the Gunks class. Guess I could have just taken their van and driven myself home... but that would have been rude.

A good look at the October 2008 rockfall near Hawk. (Category: Rock Climbing)

A good look at the October 2008 rockfall near Hawk. Back on 10/14/2007 I shot a panorama of the Trapps and Near Trapps. Today I went back to the same vantage and took a picture of the area left of Madame G's where the rockfall occurred. The upper picture is pre-fall and the lower picture is post-fall. The section of rock which detached is shown in full zoom. Also note the missing trees in the lower picture.    Gunks -- 5/3/2009
