Grandpa's 90th Birthday Celebration
Drove to CT in the morning and went to see Yesterdays, An Evening With Billie Holiday. I didn't know much about her life or music, so the show was all new to me. But that was just the prelude. Early the next morning we drove to the airport and flew to Miami. There we boarded the Carnival Imagination for a four day cruise. I have to admit, the cruise was much more fun than I had anticipated it would be.
Monday we sailed out of Miami. The ship was a total eatstravaganza... There was food everywhere and always. Tuesday morning we were docked in Key West. Rachel and I took the kids to a botanical garden that was really nice. Then we finished the day at the Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center.
Wednesday we docked in Cozumel. The whole family went to Paradise Beach where there was swimming and excellent snorkeling. Thursday the ship spent the day at sea and we were back in Miami Friday morning. Being on the ship wasn't exactly thrilling, but there was usually something to do (and always something to eat). The water slide was fun, but it was poorly run and the line took forever. There was a show each night, usually a dance/music revue. Highlight entertainer was comedian Allyn Ball who was absolutely hilarious. And I had fun hanging out with the kids -- providing dinner entertainment, watching them eat five bowls of ice cream, and filming Johari's sprint through the ship. During our day at sea we got a conference room on the ship (they even provided an LCD projector) and showed Grandpa's slides that Brett and I had digitized. Some of the pictures were over 40 years old, and everyone really enjoyed seeing them.
Not bad. I'd definitely do it again in 90 years.
