Rock Climbing --- 8/24/2009 - 8/26/2009 --- Gunks
Hamartia -- A tragic flaw. e.g. Running with a full bladder.
Went to the Gunks for three AMWE days! Emily (aka Katie or Sugar Pants), Katie (aka Amy or Little Miss Sunshine), Carolyn (aka Alexander or Beep), and Alex (aka Andrew or Chuckles Wilson) and I all piled into Katie's Subaru and drove down early Monday morning. Once there, I climbed Shockley's with Emily and Katie. Then we did the first pitch of Strictly From Nowhere. Next we climbed RMC. We finished the day climbing Bunny to set a TR on Nosedive. We watched a fox walk down the carriage road while waiting for Alex and Carolyn to finish their grade IV ascent of Limelight. After that the five of us went for a moonlight swim and then to the DEC for dinner and sleep.
Tuesday morning Emily, Katie and I jumped on High Exposure. We managed a ton of classic climbs over the three days and never once waited in line. In fact, we never shared a climb with any other parties. After High E we climbed Ant's Line and set a TR on Ent's Line. This is my shoulder rehab project. It went better than last month. Spent for the day, we met up with Alex and Carolyn, and found Jess, Magoogs, Matt and Katie. We all went off for a swim and dinner.
On Wednesday Emily, Katie and I started the day on Birdland. Then Katie went off to climb with Magoogs while Emily and I climbed Yellow Ridge. We took a nice long rest on the awesome belay bench before the final pitch. Then we finished the day with a quick run up Disneyland. Alex and Carolyn managed to get a second grade IV, Thin Slabs Direct. We all met Katie and Magoogs at Ken's Crack, then departed for Ithaca. Driving home, we stopped for ice cream (obviously) and learned how to identify a male prostitute (not so obviously).
