Rock Climbing --- 7/6/2010 - 7/8/2010 --- Rumney
7/6 Emily and I drive to Rumney early in the morning. We head to The Meadows. I lead Bolt Line (5.8) then Lies and Propaganda (5.9) except I get on the wrong route and lead Hippos On Parade (5.8) instead. It is a fun climb and I lead Lies immediately after. We finish the day with Emily's leads of Rose Garden (5.7) and Truth In Advertising (5.7+). Then, after dealing with a giant scarab beetle, we are off for a refreshing swim and dinner. Supposedly the high temperature for today is 97F. Never Have I Ever climbed in heat like that at Rumney.
7/7 Off to Vader where I lead Yoda (5.9) and Obi-Wan Ryobi (5.9+) which are both stellar. Then head to Upper Vader where Emily leads Blustery Day (5.6) and I lead Victim Of Love (5.8) and Frosted Flakes (5.7). Next we have a fun and very hot time swinging leads up Clip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah (5.3, 2 pitches) so we can sit in the shade at the top of Rattlesnake Mountain and look over the valley. Done for the day (mostly because we are out of water) we go for a swim, eat dinner and play Scrabble.
7/8 Not wanting to hike up the hill, we head to 5.8 Crag. Emily leads The Terrace (5.8) then I lead Romancing The Stone (5.10c). Like the first time I led it Sophomore year, I have to hang at every bolt. Frustrating. After Emily runs up it, I take a burn on TR and get it cleanly without too much difficulty. Need to work on my lead head. Or not. We have both made quota, but we keep climbing. Emily leads Asbury Park (5.7) and I lead Bolt And Run (5.9). After a brief delay while I attempt to booty a fixed link cam at the base of Bolt and Run (no luck, cooler temperatures might help, but I think the cam will be useless once retrieved... the lobes move sideways a huge amount like the axle is broken), we go for a swim and then drive back to Ithaca.
