Rock Climbing --- 5/23/2013 - 5/27/2013 --- New River Gorge
Saturday we went to Sandstonia at Bubba City. Started the day by leading Mrs. Fields Follies (5.8), Geisha Girl (5.8), Witches of Bangor (5.10c), and Centennial (5.10b). Then finished the day toproping The Decameron (5.10b), and Lieback and Enjoy It (5.10d).
Sunday we went to The Beer Wall at Bubba City. Started by leading Gilded Otter (5.7) chossy, ledgy and awkward this takes the prize as one of the worst climbs I've ever done. Then redeemed my day by leading the excellent St. Pauli Girl (5.10b) where I figured out the rest beta without being told. You hang on the fourth bolt :). Done leading for the day, I worked the start of Delirium Tremors (5.11a) then finished the climb by escaping the crux on Eating Bimbo Pie (5.7). Climbed Bubbaweiser (5.10d) and Cerveza Verde (5.9) which were both fun. Finished the day following Dave's excellent lead of Immaculate Combustion (5.10c).
Monday was a short day. We went to Butcher's Branch at Kaymoor where I followed The Green Piece (5.10b) and Flight of the Gumbie (5.9) before it was time to drive back to Ithaca.
Stayed at Chestnut Creek Campgrounds. They were ok and reasonably quiet. But pricey at $9/person/night and there was insufficient hot water for the showers. Yeah, showering is a luxury on a four day trip, but if I'm paying $9/night I'd at least like at HOT shower.
