New Year's in the Dacks!

We drive up. The Dacks is a sheet of ice. No kidding -- we have to use
our ice tools to hack a path from Tammy's driveway to her door. I suppose
this is a good way to start an ice climbing trip.

Two years to the day after climbing Chiller Pillar as a preface to New Year's
Eve, we do it again. Unlike two years ago, it is really really cold today.
6F when we get out of the car. Brrr!
Then New Year's Eve at Leslie and David's house and champagne... flavored cupcake.

We hike to the very end of Chapel Pond Canyon where we climb Quinn The Eskimo.
Then we stop at the Noon Mark for some pie on the way home.
2014 is off to an auspicious start!

The high temperature forecast for today is -4F. Time to get outside!
Too cold to climb (though with the sun all day, the Pitchoff Quarry might have been quite nice). We decide to hike up Rooster Comb. It is five miles on snowshoes and crampons. Gorgeous day. Loads of fun. My first time ever winter hiking in the Dacks without a climbing objective :)
