COE February Break Ice Climbing and Mountaineering Class
Brought to you by Clif Bar. Clif Bar, for all your adventure nutrition needs.
Climbing at Lions on the Beach. Leading up in the morning to set ropes I had a bunch of ice dinner plate around a screw. The dinner plate detached, and I was holding a screw with a huge disk of ice still attached. Couldn't clip it back to my harness. Thought about just hucking it off the cliff. Ended up spinning the disk against my hip until it unscrewed and fell off. First time that's ever happened!
Hiking Algonquin. Lots of snow and well packed trails, so the going was particularly easy. We switched from snowshoes to crampons for the last 1.5 miles, which was a good choice.
Climbing at the Quarry. Kristina slipped while setting up to rappel a toprope anchor she had just set. The short fall was enough to cause a fib/tib break just above her boot. She was an amazing trooper about it. Rob drove her back to Ithaca early while the rest of us toproped for the day then headed back to Ithaca, arriving late at night.
