COE ADK Ice Class

Coldest class I've ever run. Supposedly a windchill of -110F was recorded atop Whiteface Sunday night. We had air temperatures from -28F to -5F most of the time. The temperature didn't come above 0F until the afternoon of our last day.

On Saturday we hiked Owl's Head. I shared a "fun fact you'll wish you didn't know" with the students... The NOAA mountain point forecasts don't predict windchills below -60F. The scale just ends there.

Sunday we went animal tracking in the snow outside the cabin. Then drove to Chapel Pond and hike across the frozen pond and all the way down the canyon. We finished the day with a driving tour of the high peaks region, and played popcorn (aka fishbowl) back in the cabin.

Monday started off at -25F, but soon the temperatures climbed to a balmy 0F. We were able to get four ropes on Lions on the Beach and the students climbed all day. Then we spent eight hours driving home through a serious winter storm. In bed a bit after 2am. Easy as noonmark pie.
