Climbing --- 7/19/2019 - 7/23/2019 --- Dacks
Started our trip Saturday at Pokeomoonshine. We climbed the first two pitches of Fastest Gun in 95F temps with 95% humidity. I was melting too much for the upper pitches. Have to get back to those when the weather is better. First two pitches were amazing. Then we climbed Bloody Mary which was also totally amazing. I think I used more chalk climbing those pitches than I have in the previous 12 months of climbing combined. After climbing we went for a swim at Split Rock falls on the Boquet. The cascade was clear and refreshing. Definitely my favorite swimming hole in the Dacks... ummm... wait... it was mucky and there were used needles everywhere. Don't go.
Sunday we drove to Burlington to bike the trail along the lake from south of the city to the bike ferry. About 25 miles round trip with a dip in the lake at the end. Maple ice cream and Cheese Trader finished the day.
Monday we knew the forecast was mediocre, but we hoped to hike Trap Dike. It was not to be. Continuous rain turned the dike into a waterfall. Actually, it's a waterfall even when there is no rain. It was really really wet. We ended up hiking from the Loj to the south end of Avalanche Lake, and then back to the Loj. About 10 miles in total. Very wet, but one of the best hikes in the Dacks. We got ADK Market sandwiches, and Noonmark fries and pie as a reward. No need for a swim today... we spent the entire day soaked to the bone.
Had enough time to head to Deadwater in the morning. One of the fastest drying cliffs in the Dacks, it was dry when we arrived at 8am. We got on Bozeman Bullet and Tombstone (which I was very proud to onsight) before having to head south so Emily could catch her train in Albany.
